In my first article, I introduced SharePoint Governance and provided some of the difficulties encountered while talking or writing about it. These difficulties are of course also applicable when working on such a project… Yes ! I consider the activity of setting up the SharePoint Governance as a project as this might or will require from your company or organization a lot time, resources and effort depending on the complexity of your organization as well as the Strategy & Vision set for the platform.

In many organization, especially nowadays, almost everyone agrees on the need of having Governance for SharePoint technologies. In some case, someone with senior Project Management profile is identified and from now on responsible for setting up the new SharePoint governance… Most of the time these people do not have any real life experience of such project. Now is the time to start blogging about my favorite subject… SharePoint Governance.  Almost everybody is agreeing on the following statement… Talking about SharePoint Governance is pretty difficult !

Why is it so ?

First, it requires a lot of technical and functional knowledge of the platform as well as a real life experience in implementing and managing these technologies but do not take me wrong, it is for sure not all about technology and platform management !  Does it means you have to be a technical expert in order to be member of the SharePoint governance teams ? Of course not ! But… You better have at least one person with advanced technical knowledge and experience in order to adequately  advice the rest of the teams on any decision and their potential impact or risks… My advice would still be to recommend that every SharePoint governance teams member has at least a high level functional knowledge of the platform as well as its capabilities.… Read the rest of this article...
